What the form collects

This is the complete list of what the request form asks for. It is generated from the form, so if a field is ever added or removed the list changes with it rather than being remembered about later.

• Name to ask for. So whoever calls you back knows who they are speaking to.
• Number to call back. The number the restoration company rings. It is the field the whole thing turns on.
• Email (optional). Used only if you would rather be written to than telephoned.
• Which of these is closest? Which of the job types is closest, so the request reaches somebody who does that work.
• What happened, in your own words. Whatever you write about the damage. It is passed on in your own words rather than summarised.
• Pictures of the damage (optional). Any pictures you attach of the damage, which are the most useful thing in the request.

The form also contains one hidden box that a person never sees and never fills in. It is there to catch automated submissions, and anything arriving in it is treated as spam rather than as a request from somebody who needs help.

Nothing else is asked for. There is no account to create, no password, no date of birth and no payment detail, because nothing on this site is paid for by a householder.

Where it goes

A completed request is stored by the operator of this site and passed to one restoration company covering the area you described. That company then contacts you directly, and from that point they hold your details as well.

Your details are not sold. They are not offered to a list of companies who bid for them, they are not passed to a marketing service, and they are not used to send you anything unrelated to the request you sent. If you send a request and never hear from anybody, the correct response is to send it again or find a company yourself, not to expect it to be circulating somewhere.

Two ordinary technical exceptions apply. The site runs on hosting and email infrastructure operated by other companies, and a request necessarily passes through them to be stored and delivered at all. And a request may be disclosed if the law requires it.

Photographs

If you attach photographs they are stored alongside the rest of the request and shown to the same company. Photographs of a wet room usually contain more than the wet room, so it is worth a glance before you attach them.

What is measured on these pages

No Google Analytics runs on this site, and there is no Google Tag Manager, no advertising pixel and no social network tracker on any page. That is a deliberate build decision rather than an oversight.

Reading a page here is counted, by this site's own server and by one small script served from this domain and nowhere else. Six things are recorded about that one visit, and between them and the form list above, that is everything this site knows about you.

Blocking the script does not stop the count, and saying otherwise would be the sort of half-truth this page exists to avoid. Five of the six are already visible to the server as it hands the page over. The width of your window is the exception, because only your browser knows it.

• Which page was opened. the address of it and nothing you typed into a box on it
• Which site the link came from. that site or search engine by name, never the particular page on it you were reading before you clicked
• How wide the browser window is. enough to separate a phone from a laptop, and nothing finer than that
• The town, region and country the connection is registered to. taken from the network rather than from GPS, so a mobile signal or a VPN can put it a long way from where you actually are
• What the browser says it is. the name and version it announces to every website you open, along with the system it runs on
• A one-way key meaning "the same reader, today". the connection address and the browser mixed with the date and a secret kept on the server, so four pages read in one sitting count once instead of four times. It cannot be turned back into an address, no address is stored, and the key for the same reader tomorrow bears no relation to today. Nothing here follows anybody from one day to the next

None of it is joined to a request you send through the form, none of it is sold or passed on, and there is no profile anywhere with your name against a list of pages. It answers one question, which is whether these pages are read at all.

The form is protected by a challenge widget loaded from Cloudflare, which is there to tell an automated submission from a person. It is the only script on this site loaded from somewhere else.

This site sets no cookies of its own and does not ask you to accept any, which is why there is no banner asking you to.

How long it is kept

A request is kept while it is useful for the job it describes and for dealing with any question that comes up about that job afterwards. There is no fixed schedule published here, because inventing one that nothing enforces would be worse than saying so. If you want it gone sooner, ask, and it goes.

Asking for a copy, or asking for it to be deleted

You can ask what has been stored about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. There is no charge and no form to fill in beyond the one already on the site.

Send the request through the contact form and write in the message what you want done. There is no email address published on this site, so that form is the route, and it reaches the same place the original request did.

A request that has already been passed to a restoration company is also held by that company. Deleting it here does not delete it there, and they will have their own way of handling that, so ask them as well.

Children

Nothing on this site is aimed at children and the form is not intended to be used by anybody under 18.

Changes to this page

When the form changes, this page changes in the same commit, because the list at the top of it is built from the form rather than typed out beside it. Other changes will carry a new date at the top.
